We wanted to make our first featured roaster of 2021 a really special one and when we came across New Kid Coffee it made so much sense for us to feature them. New Year. New Coffee. New Kid.

This coffee had to be different and unique. We had a chat with Richard from New Kid Coffee late in 2020 about what coffees they had and what we could do. One thing he was excited about was an experimental process they were trying out where they aged green coffee in old whiskey casks used by Sliabh Liag Distillers before roasting. This definitely piqued our interests.

Roasted in the north west of Ireland in Donegal, the majority of this coffee is from the Chalatenango region of El Salvador and a farm called La Mina de Willy. Processed by a natural method, this Pacamara variety is grown by Wilber Dubón on his 1.5 manzana farm where he primarily grows Pacas variety. Wilber hand picks his coffee, sorts it and dries it on patios and raised beds.

There is also a small amount in the blend from the Cajamarca region in Peru, a region we featured coffee from last year, and while we don’t usually release blends this tiny percentage of the Peruvian coffee was to help balance the flavour and give you a truly unique and special coffee.

On a personal note, Bean Delivered welcomed our own new kid right at the start of the year which made New Kid coffee such a poignant choice. And having lots of great Irish roasted coffee at home has been a big help to us too!!
